LETTERS (Jink Ink)

Jink Ink

From: natalie.carter@branson.com

Okay, I guess it's time for me to open my big mouth and throw in my two cents.

Who does this remind you of: They're deceitful and grotesque, but have a warped sense of reality and so find themselves self important and beautiful? The trolls, I mean... the Neverending!

Well, here's my take on the situation: In JINK #4, the Neverending revealed that they came from an exhausted planet with too many people to bear, an emergency evacuation type deal, just as the High Ones did so long ago. But, the same can be said for the trolls! They came from the same exhausted planet as the high ones, only they were just little monkey type creatures then. The magic of the High Ones is what changed them into the trolls we know today. Maybe THESE little monkey type creatures, "diggers", I think they were called, were from a different ship than the one Timmain was on, (which eventually lead to the High Ones remaining in elf form, and the magic from the ship changing the diggers into trolls, and the bugs into preservers). Maybe the magic from THIS ship changed their diggers into the grotesque Neverending! It would be just like the trolls to steal the High One's history and adapt it to fit themselves, making them seem like the important ones. You have to admit, it's EXACTLY like a troll to be that ugly and think itself beautiful!

Even if you don't go for my "troll analogy", I'm sure you agree that the Neverending could not possibly be relatives of the High Ones. The High Ones were a peaceful race and would never set out to annihilate other life forms, No dice.

Well, was that worth two cents? Or do I get change back?

Wow, JINK's getting better and better! And all the suspense... I can hardly stand it! But what's with the schedule, now? #3 came out in January, now #4 comes our in April! Oh, I almost forgot - Richard, you dog! Does this seem familiar - "...the Neverending are Coneheads, but Coneheads on a lower evolutionary scale. Or they have also evolved, but in a different direction. They can by no means be called elves, but the relationship is close enough that Jink was able to make contact with them where the humans had failed. And now I dread the day where I find that everything I've said with such certainty is dead wrong from beginning to end." to which you responded, "Got a calendar handy?," implying that I was wrong, Arrrgh, I could strangle you! I guess I should have expected it, though.

Also, isn't it time we saw more of Jerrod in Blue Mountain? (Another mystery I'm dying to see solved). Been a couple of issues without 'im and I, for one, would like to know what he's doing. And people think Rayek is bad! Which brings to mind Watchwarden Steele. She's in it right up to her pretty white @$$, isn't she? Does she know about Jink? What would she do if she found out about her and Kullyn? Gee, I wonder.

Well, let's see now, what else did I want to say? Oh, yeah - why don't you ever publish any actual letters? (hint, hint) And a word to Mr. Hillman, the best colorist Jink has ever had - go easy on the grey, okay? Jink's hair is supposed to be silver. But other than that, your doing a great job kid! (And this coming from a sixteen year-old!)

Back to JINK, though. Why is everyone so sure Jink's parents are current characters? How do we know she isn't the daughter of, say... Tyleet's cub and Skywise and Timmain's cub, hm? Remember, we don't exactly know how old they might be. Hell, we don't even know about how old Jink is!

Finally, we find out about the Neverending's past. It's been bugging me for months. Still, I wish I knew what happened with Jink and the Neverending forty years ago (something which I'm sure will be explained in the later issues), but it scared her a lot. Where did the Neverending come from? Their past sounds a little like the High Ones' past in the fact they were both over populated, but didn't the High Ones also leave because the sun was dying?

Please, go back to Jerrod and Blue Mountain. It's killing me! I'll go crazy if I don't find out what's going on with him and the rest of the Black Snakes (something created by Winnie?). I was hoping for more on that in this issue, but I can wait a little longer (very little). I'm still trying to figure the details of the "mysteriously resurrected" Blue Mountain. I'm guessing that it happened in nature (it's been well over 10,000 years since Blue Mountain fell), or Winnie gathered up several rock shapers to restore the mountain. Please tell me that I'm thinking somewhere along the right lines.

Now, the issue that everybody's been talking about and you're probably getting sick of hearing: Jink's heritage. I'm sticking to the ever popular Skywise-Timmmain heritage. After all, she has silver hair (characteristic to both Skywise and Timmain), Skywise's sex drive, and Timmain's shapeshifting ability. I think that she is taller than some of the younger elves - Cutter and Skywise.

One final word: I think True Holder is the biggest Neverending jerk in the universe and some body should rip his spine out and beat him with it. And I think Jink's the elf to do it (or maybe she should just skin him like a lizard).

Um... lemme' get this straight: Blue Mountain is standing?! I bet this has something to do with Door. Anyway, you've probably had it up to here with Jink's heritage but I just have to put my two cents in. Do some research! For instance, in the BIG ELFQUEST GATHERUM the picture of Skywise and Timmain with the quotation: "What does their relationship portend for the future..." Also in the latest issue of HIDDEN YEARS when Skywise says, "It would take a High One to make me recognize." Now we all know Richard gives away hints. How big of a hint do you need? A Skywise and Timmain bond would of course explain Jink's looks, personality, and shapeshifting ability. Also since Skywise and Timmain are both immortal the time gap would mean nothing. Because Jink would also be immortal. Well, what ever happens I'm sure it will be exciting.

You all know I give away hints, but you also know I give away misleading hints too! So keep those cards, letters and hinty guesses coming in, and we'll see you in 45! - RP
