MARVEL/EPIC ELFQUEST #7

QUESTS and ANSWERS

Could it be that we have another classic novel on our hands? This is definitely the best piece of fantasy literature since The Lord of the Rings.

The band of elves seem to work together like a tribe should, but is there any chance of seeing Cutter on a solo adventure? Being one who hasn't read the original Elfquest books, I don't know what's in store, but I hope to see some serious fighting. I hate to be one to betray my own race, but let's see some revenge on man.

Todd Gavin
Collinsville, VA

My, we are bloodthirsty this morning, aren't we? See how you feel about revenge, oh, about issue 20 or so, OK? --RP

I think that the colors, art, and writing are superb. So far I liked the first three issues, and I'm looking forward to #4. Oh, will there be more villains?

Joseph Benedetto
Richmond Hill, NY

Heh. Heh. Heh. --RP

When I got my first issue of Elfquest I noticed that it was Volume 2. What was Volume 1? Was it a limited series or what?

Marc Garard
Columbus, OH

Volume 1 was the original black and white series published by WaRP Graphics. Those issues are now out of print, although you might still find some of them at a comics collector shop. --RP

One reason I am so taken with Elfquest is that the storyline is so radically different than anything I've ever seen. There are no super-heroes, no laser guns, none of the stereotypes that exist in many comics. Well, I suppose Cutter is a super-hero in a way, but his success is not based on force. It is based on clear, level-headed thinking, intelligence, and a moral sense of right and wrong. By limiting yourself to a few main characters you are able to make each one a distinct personality.

One small question. You once mentioned an animated movie based on Elfquest. This was two and a half years ago. I was wondering when I could see this movie in the theatres. Also, can you say what issues it will cover?

Paul Defenbaugh
Peru, IL

We've been mentioning an animated film for quite a while, and it looks like things are finally beginning to move. Of course, if you were a member of the Elfquest Fan Club you'd know this. What fan club? Why, the one you can find out about by writing directly to 5 Reno Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. That fan club! --RP

I picked up a copy of Elfquest #4 a few days ago. After reading it I started glancing through some of my old Fantastic Fours. Much to my surprise I discovered that the middle panels on page 88 of FF #242 strikingly resembled the top panels on page 12 of Elfquest #4. If there's an explanation, can you explain?

Dave Cartright
Warren, MI

Well, you see, we like the Fantastic Four and John Byrne likes Elfquest, and that's one of the strange ways in which comics people say 'hi' to each other. Here's a quiz for you all-- how many other comics can you find Elfquest mentioned in, hm? --RP

Thank you for making Elfquest available in far lands like Singapore. May the stars shine upon you. I love Tolkien, comics, fantasy, and I'm crazy about elves. Elfquest has never previously found its way to Singapore, although I had heard quite a bit about it. Naturally I went berserk with excitement when I saw Elfquest #1 in a book shop.

So how did I find issue #1? Well, if it wasn't all I had expected, I was still delighted. I'm looking forward to future issues and believe the best is yet to come.

Edel
Republic of Singapore

And thank you for writing from your 'far land'-- we love hearing from overseas readers (and Richard loves collecting the gorgeous stamps!) --RP

I was just wondering how Cutter and Skywise became friends. I'm not complaining, but you didn't delve as deeply into their friendship as I would have liked. Skywise is my favorite character. Also, you should let Skywise come so close to dying that Cutter's love for him really shows.

Amy Short
Eaton, OH

Aww, Amy, have you been peeking? (Oh! Wasn't I supposed to say that?) Never mind... --RP

I think you should make Elfquest into a regular monthly series!!!

Charley Rukus
Rockville, MD

Uh, Archie? Jo? Is there something we're missing here? Till next time, shade and sweet water! --Richard Pini
