Whoa! The hurrier we go, the behinder we get! Now that NEW BLOOD has gone on the schedule as a monthly title, I have to prepare these editorial matter pages even further ahead of time. which means that there's been no chance for letters of comment to come in on NEW BLOOD #6 (it's still at the color separator), and there're just a couple of new letters on NEW BLOOD #5. Guess you're just going to have to write to us even before the books come out! But you're all clever and creative people, right? You can do it!
"Windkin" is an exhilarating story, done in the
same taste and style of Wendy and Richard's writing.
The art is excellent too. I was engulfed by the whole
of the story. It uplifted me.
The birth of Windkin had me in suspense, as to whether he was going to be a Glider or a Wolfrider. I'm really excited about NEW BLOOD as a series. It shows a wide diversity of talents from fans who also have a lot of talent.

That's one of the more gratifying aspects of this job, working with professional and talented people who are, indeed, also fans of ELFQUEST. It makes the communication of a story, from idea to rough script and art to finished presentation, so much easier and much more dynamic.
...On to NEW BLOOD #5. Well, we have Possible
Impossibles, Impossible Possibles, and the Real Thing.
Which is exactly what this felt like (I kept looking at
the cover and wondering why it didn't say Hidden
Years on it).
I can understand Scouter's desire to keep Dewshine safe, and (even more) his wondering "what will the cub really be like?"
HA! Nightfall knows just how to handle the situation (and Berrybuzz!).
Dewshine makes her point to Scouter about who the cub's father is! So the cub's sire is Tyldak, there is a difference. Besides, the cub was born with a Wolfrider soul name (which makes all the difference as far as I'm concerned).
Seems that Dewshine isn't the only one "in a family way." I wonder who (if anyone) might end up with one of Squirrel Bane's cubs as a bond wolf?
Hmmm, Nightfall seems... wistful over something, and I can guess what it might be. Even Leetah's thinking of things that she once considered impossible, but turned out to be otherwise. (The haunting song "Healer's Hands" is playing in my head as I look at the center panel on page 24.)
Looks like Vickie's story just might end up as "official" after all.

Wayne, you're turning into the ELFQUEST version of T.M. Maple! We hope, over the next six months or so, to take NEW BLOOD in a new direction, one that will greatly soften the "barrier" between what is "official" and what is not in the ELFQUEST story-world. We think you'll enjoy what we're cooking up. Write! We want to hear from you!
