EQ: NEW BLOOD #27

LETTERS (Bloodlines)

Bloodlines

Pei-lar calls the forest the "Forevergreen." Huh? I thought that Windkin made up that name. ('Sorrow's End?!' Cutter, that's what you named this place! How - ?" Curiouser and curiouser, eh? - RP)

Windkin (and Suntop?) receives that sending, seemingly from the direction of the Hoan-G'tay-Sho, and so probably from Door. He looks puzzled.

Next we see him flying down again, and saying that he saw this great spot to camp. I dunno. Suddenly I don't quite trust Windkin any more.

Dart and his merry men do not go on fighting against Door, now that Windkin is free. I thought that it would be difficult to explain them doing that, in light of Dart's comments in the last issue that they should never have gotten involved in this in the first place. I guess that it's going to turn out that way anyway, but that will probably be because of some new events. The mysterious sending (there sure have been quite a few of them, haven't there?) will undoubtedly have something to do with it.

I think Door is schizophrenic. He's probably a multiple personality. I mean, one moment he's that peaceful guy, hardly aware of his surroundings, but shocked over all the killing he's seen. Then suddenly...

SNAP! Now he's a raving megalomaniac, hating everyone, doing just the deeds he found so horrible before.

It doesn't seem unlikely. He was apparently seriously mistreated in his past, just like Two-Edge was. Two-Edge at least found some outlet for his pent-up feelings. Door, being confined to that seat, never to utter a word, had none.

Judging from the cover of NEW BLOOD #25, one would think the fate of the Sun Village would unfold in this issue. Alas, little more is revealed. We are in about the same dilemma as before -- will the humans destroy the Sun Folk or not? The troll-thing talks to a human boy about being sure to stick close so he can carry the magic item(s) he plans to find in the village. I assume the troll is after the little palace. Given that it shows up in REBELS, one tends to believe the troll or humans get it. That can only mean many elves die trying to defend it or they must abandon it (unlikely).

I wonder if this "slowdown" in the storyline is to let the other issues catch up. Perhaps something is better hinted at in REBELS first before the event unfolds in NB. Hmmm...

I must say I find the events in this particular issue of NB to be a bit contrived. I find it terribly hard to believe that the elves would watch the humans toil day after day and still procrastinate to the point of risking their lives needlessly. If Ahdri could build the barriers in the first place, why couldn't she reinforce them enough to slow down the humans. Well, she was probably working on the escape tunnel. Something they should have made long ago when the barriers were first erected. Anyway, I still think it a bit hokey that the elves would post lookouts, plan to leave, and then dally around so long. Surely the lookouts could see the humans coming and Send to the village on regular intervals to report on their progress. Sheesh. It's like they have a death wish or something. Well, not really, but they do appear to suffer from an attachment to their homes as bad as certain crazy people here on the world of one moon (guy stays with house and drowns in flood, etc.). Home is in the heart, not the land or possessions. I hope the Sun Folk don't learn that lesson the hard way. It looks like some of them might. Of course, I'd probably be the loon running back into my burning apartment for my EQ stuff. Just kidding!

Shade and more shade underground.

Regarding current plots and schemes, I like the directions this book is taking; lots of surprises! And a lot of story to cover. When the staff is available, it would seem that it's time for a new series to be born exclusively for the Sun Villagers.

A comment on wolf blood. The idea of 'cubs' among Sun Villagers is odd. The last child we know of before the Wolfriders came is Leetah. How much wolfblood is running through the veins of all these new characters? How much life and death is there among them? Life of the Sun Village was never deeply explored. Of course, that's moot now.

Looking forward to next issue...

Subject: Ahdri - NEW BLOOD #26

Ahdri, Ahdri, Ahdri... I have to admit, I'm going to miss her. I've been patiently awaiting her further development as a character and now, poof gone. Of course it's been said before: It's a comic book... did you see the body?

But Warp has been wonderful in the past with not resurrecting the dead, something I think that gives their characters more life. So to speak. A character is more real to us when they don't get to break the rules. I am going to miss her character, just as I would miss any of my favorite characters, but she did die saving the little palace and serving her tribe something I'm sure she would take comfort in. Even if Warp decided to kill off all of my favorites, I won't complain because I believe that it would be to the benefit of the story. Anything for plot.

Also, poor Windkin! Not to mention Shen-shen, Dart and Co. If they don't find out about Ahdri's death due to sending (which the little palace might augment, not to mention Suntop) they are certainly going to find out when they get back. I wonder if Windkin might get a dangerous dose of angst from the fact that he went off chasing a vision, had most of the village's defenders follow him and therefore none of them were there to save Ahdri... Not that this is the actual case, of course, but you know how often bereaved people act rational.

Not to mention Savah... the Mother of Memory without her handmaiden for the first time in millennia... a depressed Savah? I don't want to see it.

And it is sad that Ahdri made it well over 10,000 years old serving the village, spent quite a bit of that lifemated to Windkin and still never Recognized. (Big Gatherum does say she was the UnRecognized lifemate of Windkin)

Oh, and I'm glad Windkin gets that wonderful outfit of his back. *chuckle* Yes, just had to throw in the silly along with the serious.
