Now here's a little trial of wits for you!
Back in SHARDS #1 When Winnowill has reverted to elf form, Two-Edge is sending to her. Then she shapechanges herself back into a human and, logically, Two-Edge's sending is shut out, since "humans do not send." Then how is it possible that Winnowill, in human form, is able to launch a devastating black sending at Rayek in SHARDS #3? Whyfor? Whyfor?

Simple. When Winnowill shapechanges, she's not becoming human, just putting on a costume, so to speak. She still maintains her elf-self beneath the appearance. - RP
I must say I was very surprised that the art in
SHARDS is just as good as Wendy's. I love Brandon
McKinney's covers, they really get you to want to buy
the comic. He does a wonderful job on it. Suzanne
Dechnik does wonders with the colors too. The characters
look so real. Terry Beatty does such a great job.
Good work, Terry!

Nah, Christine. There can never be enough of that! - RP
SHARDS #3: In a Pig's... I laughed my head off!
Also makes "cliffhanger" beginning and end so much
more acceptable. Somehow I suspect we'll get a load of
unpredictable common sense out of the twin trolls. I'm
glad you've plotted as far ahead as issue #18. Makes
me feel better about having lost sight of Venka already.
And Ekuar. Rayek seems to be in the shooting line for
some much needed tough lessons in proper behavior.
But will he learn?
Djun is both a match for Lady Venovel and capable of accepting a Master Builder he has never seen! He's more than likely to live up to his formidable reputation, and he's obviously possessed of some pretty good reflexes. My guess is he'll be a far more dangerous opposition to Cutter's band precisely because he is a never before encountered quantity. Front page for SHARDS #4, eeek! Clay, Wood, Stone, Flesh! What's next in the moulding pot?

I only can get to my comic shop every few
weeks and this time around I got SHARDS #3 and #4 at
the same time, so I'll comment on both.
I worry about Mender! He seems to have a bad inferiority complex about his healing powers. If he keeps using this "I... am not Leetah" excuse, somebody's going to die! I hadn't realized that Ember's choosing had affected him so deeply.
Is it just me, or has Aroree shrunk? She's supposed to be as tall as Savah, but in the tunnel, she's no bigger than Cutter. And when will she realize that what Rayek says are not "orders"?
And about Winnowill. Perhaps I've been spoiled by WAVEDANCERS, but Your Winnowill was... too human. Her skin was no lighter than the Djun's. Her hair wasn't long enough. And she just didn't look elfish enough. Maybe that's why her "ultimate weapon" didn't work.
You've got this plotted through issue #18? Eeksis! This is gonna take longer than anyone thought!

The impatience of youth. Why, I remember the good old days when it took nearly seven years to do eighteen issues... And as for Winnowill looking too human... whimper... where did we go wrong..? - RP
Re: SHARDS #4. Three cheers for Grohmul
Djun! He's doing what no one else has been able to
before - standing up to Winnowill without the use of
magic. Talk about strength of personality. He'd be a
good ally to Cutter and company, when that time
comes. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Hah!
A friendly, voluntary contact between Cutter and
Rayek. It took fifteen years in real time (as opposed
to story time). Another fifteen years before Winnowill
is civilized?
Brrrr. Two-Edge's shelf had a human skull, a troll and an elf skull. And he picked up Venka, just like he picked up her sister Vaya. Brr, again. This is getting morbid!

All right! Keep it up!
SHARDS #4 was terrific! I loved it! Great opening and ending! Marvelous story! This issue and stories like it are why I started reading and buying ELFQUEST.
I was wondering if we'd see Shuna again. Can't blame her for disguising herself. She's pretty sensitive to elves, isn't she? I know she could be an effective elfin ally if she's just given the chance. She's already passed them important information - particularly when she told them of the Djun's announcement.
Winnowill looks thinner, but that's understandable. This time, when she gets knocked down, I hope she stays down.
Ooooo! Two-Edge finds Venka. I just knew it would be him. She's bandaged and on a soft bed - that's nice of him. I wonder what he intends for her - Leetah did clear up most of his craziness. Please don't kill Venka before she has a baby!
Is the Djun nuts?!? In our world history, no human ruler who claimed to be a god when their culture didn't say so did not stay on the throne long. I hope the Wolfriders totally wreck him in this.
Those poor dogs! Why did Winnowill do that to them? She's nastier than ever - the Wolfriders are going to know whose handiwork they are!
I am really, really, really afraid that Strongbow is going to die. He has already come close twice, once at the end of the original quest and in Hidden Years #1. The third time is said to do it, and Strongbow could be done in. The last two times, Moonshade was there and her love most certainly helped him through. Without her, will he succumb? And what is his reaction to being separated from her?
